The space between

This exhibition “The space between” brings together the work of a group of recent graduates of the National Art School who is each in their own way drawn to the spaces we often overlook.

These might be places we walk past every day without noticing, like shopfronts or quiet corners. They might be everyday objects in a mother’s home that barely register until she’s gone and then they take on new meaning.  They might be moments of quiet in busy days that are invisible until we stop to reflect.  They might be the spaces between the flashy waves and cliffs that hold the rock pools and ripples and quieter things that actually are the shapes and patterns that highlight the beauty of those more dramatic features.

In painters terms these are the negative spaces in a picture plane that throw the subject forward, the tertiary colours that help the bright ones shine.

The space you don’t notice….until you do.

The space between.
