The Long Paintings
My series of long-format works seek to convey a feeing of immersion in the landscape. I use a mix of oil painting and printmaking processes, some of which mimic the forces of the natural world. The long format helps to create a sense of shifting perspective. Looking up, down and into an unusually long work is a little vertigo-inducing, putting the viewer off balance but in a way that enables them to fall headlong into the landscape and experience it all at once. The viewer will not be able to identify the place but will, I hope, feel a sense of something familiar, if a little disorienting.
